Genetic Counseling ACGC Accreditation
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s Master of Genetic Counselor Studies (MGCS) degree program was fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) in 2020 for the maximum allotted time.
Genetic counseling is an exciting profession that combines advanced education in human, molecular and medical genetics with skills and experience in counseling. With the first class of students starting in 1976, our program offers a unique breadth and depth of learning experiences and is one of the longest-running genetic counseling programs in the United States.
In accordance with ACGC standard A3.2.2, the MGCS outcome measures are:
- Cumulative board pass rate, first time test-takers*: 87%
- Cumulative board pass rate, overall*: 100%
- Cumulative board pass rate, first time test-takers, since 2019: 92%
- Retention in program*: 96%
- Job placement within 12 weeks of graduation*: 96%
- Retention in profession*: 100%
