Sarah Rothschild named executive director of the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association

Since 2014, Rothschild has been the director of constituent relations for the University of Virginia’s Medical Alumni Association and Medical School Foundation. From 2012-14 she served as director for alumni relations at the University of Washington School of Medicine Alumni Association and has held other leadership roles in alumni relations, media relations, and public affairs.

WMAA is the medical alumni relations group of the school, and operates in close collaboration with the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association. WMAA strives to enhance the experience of medical students by cultivating relationships between alumni and students. Rothschild will lead the WMAA team in advancing strategic priorities including alumni and student engagement, program development, alumni communications, and fundraising.

“I am thrilled to be joining the outstanding SMPH community and leading WMAA in developing and executing a strategy to engage alumni and students for a lifetime,” Rothschild said. “I enjoy building connections and developing events and programs that create vibrant and inclusive communities. I am grateful for the strong traditions of SMPH and WMAA and look forward to creating new ones.”

Rothschild’s career has focused on many facets of alumni relations and advancement in higher education, particularly in medicine and the biomedical sciences. At the University of Virginia, she has led a constituent relations strategic plan aimed at more than 17,000 constituents.

That role has involved collaborating with a board of directors and board of trustees, building meaningful programs and volunteer opportunities for alumni, overseeing awards programs, engaging with current students and house staff, producing of alumni communications, and contributing to fundraising efforts. In addition, she has served in leadership roles with the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement.

Rothschild is profoundly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. At the University of Virginia, she launched a Black Medical Alumni Weekend event and student-alumni mentorship and networking platforms for constituents from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine.
